One of the many reasons we LOVE him!!
My concert experience
I have been waiting patiently since I heard Jeff's first audition in September of 2012 to see him perform live. When I saw that he was coming to Atlanta with STP, I didn't hesitate to buy tickets! It was on a Tuesday night which meant I had to take 2 days off of work but I didn't care! lol Once the day finally arrived, I was so excited that I woke up before my alarm went off. Bobby, my BF, had to work the night before so I let him sleep while I packed and got ready. Once packed and ready, I woke him, and we got on the road. By the time we got to Atlanta, traffic was already beginning to be a nightmare. I googled the Masquerade and discovered that it was less than a mile away from our room, so we decided that walking would be easier than fighting the traffic. Things were going smoothly, we stopped at a little place called Sweet Georgia's Juke Joint and had a drink about halfway there. It was an interesting little place. After we left there, we headed to find the Masquerade. Well, my GPS had no clue where it was taking us, and we ended up walking about half a mile out of the way before we finally found a radio station van and got directions. We weren't alone though, there were about 6 other folks wondering around doing the same thing. Once we found the venue, we were patted down by security and we were finally in. It was like 6:20pm and doors opened at 7. I was so upset because I wanted to be in line early and get up front. There were probably 70 people in front of us in line so I didn't think that in a million years I would be able to get close to the stage. The wait was horrible. Finally 7:00 got there and they let us in. To my surprise, no one was rushing to the stage, so I hurried and found the spot where I could see the stage the best. All the VIP people were right up front because they were already in there. It was still an hour before showtime. That was the longest hour ever!!! The opening band came on at 8, they were very talented young men but I couldn't help but to be happy when they were finished because I knew it was getting close to time for Jeff and the guys! The stage crew took their sweet time getting set up and FINALLY, about 9, STP took the stage. It was the most exciting moment I have had in a very long time!! My heart was pounding as I could see them walking up onto the stage in the dark. Then the lights came on and they opened with Wicked Garden. Jeff was right in front of me. Perfect in every way. His vocals were absolutely incredible all night. I was blown away. As a long time JAGarmy member and Jeff fan, as well as a Stone Temple Pilots fan since the 90's, I couldn't think of anything that could have made the night any more perfect. Song after song, I sang along and watched in awe. I didn't want it to end. But the moment came when they walked off of the stage. The crowd didn't move, we started chanting STP, STP, STP,... That went on for a while and to my surprise, they came back out and did an encore performance. It was amazing!! After the concert, we went outside and found a place to sit because we had been on our feet for SO long. It was such a beautiful night. I couldn't talk or hear but I could just sit and enjoy the night air and think back on what I had just experienced. I was kicking myself for not buying VIP tickets (which I have now purchased for the Chattanooga show lol) Once my hearing started to come back, I could hear all the people around us talking about how amazing Jeff was. They talked about how well he stepped in and took on his new role. I talked to one guy who had seen STP in concert with Scott and he knew nothing of Jeff up until this night. He was absolutely shocked at Jeff's ability. He said he thinks Jeff may be the best singer he has ever heard and will be the best front man STP has ever had. I couldn't help but smile and feel like a proud parent. I know I had nothing to do with Jeff getting this gig but I did put in a lot of hours voting for him on the XF and I have tried over the years to introduce him to as many folks as possible. Needless to say, this was the best concert I have ever been to. I am going to see them again in Chattanooga and in Pelham, AL on the big stage. I hope that ALL of my fellow JAGarmy members get to experience a night like the one I had. I can't wait to hear your stories!!! See the slide show below for pics of my night. ~Missy~
